Carbohydrates & Sugar

Consuming refined carbohydrates that are high in sugar and low in fiber is associated with lower levels of HDL and higher levels of LDL and triglycerides, which is associated with an increased risk for heart disease. Very high carbohydrate intakes of more than 60% of total calories along with excess sugar consumption are associated with an increase in triglycerides.

Risk of Heart Disease & Diabetes

Refined carbohydrates and sugar is linked to high cholesterol, obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Sodium (Salt) & MSG

In most people, kidneys have trouble keeping up with excess sodium in the blood. As sodium accumulates, the body holds onto water to dilute the sodium. This increases both the amount of fluid surrounding cells and the volume of blood in the bloodstream. Increased blood volume means more work for the heart and more pressure on blood vessels.

Risk of Heart, Kidney Disease & Cancer

The extra pressure can stiffen blood vessels, leading to high blood pressure, heart attack/failure, stroke, kidney disease, cancer, etc.

Trans Fat

Trans fat is considered by many doctors to be the worst type of fat you can eat. It raises your LDL ("bad") cholesterol and lowers your HDL ("good") cholesterol. Studies have shown that trans fat increases inflammation, especially in people with excess weight or obesity. It can also damage the lining of blood vessels.

Risk of Heart Attack, Stroke & Diabetes

Trans fat has unhealthy effect on cholesterol levels. The fatty deposits within your arteries tear or rupture, a blood clot may form and block blood flow to a part of your heart, causing a heart attack, or to a part of your brain, causing a stroke.

It is also linked to long-term inflammation, insulin resistance, and type 2 diabetes.
